Becoming a parent is a life changing event. Often, looking after yourself can be overlooked in favour of caring for your little one. While I am mostly money conscious in every day life, I do like to treat myself every so often to some ‘me-time’. My favourite way to indulge in relaxation is to visit a spa or have a treatment such as a massage.
My husband and I held our wedding reception at Hatherley Manor Hotel. We had a wonderful, memorable day and we were delighted with the service we received from the lovely staff on our special day – they couldn’t do enough for us and our guests. We always said that the only thing that the venue was missing was a spa – we even wrote that on our post wedding questionnaire!
When we found out that Hatherley Manor Hotel was to become a spa destination too, we couldn’t wait for the building work to finish so that we could revisit and try out the state-of-the-art facilities.
As a new parent, I was delighted to be offered the chance to visit the new spa and write about my experience of finding my way back to fitness and encouraging a balanced lifestyle on my blog.
Parenting can be a huge juggling act and usually, time for yourself can be left hanging in the balance.
However, sometimes the to-do-list needs prioritising itself. I needed time to put myself first and think independently of my other responsibilities.
Initially, I found myself gravitating towards the fitness suite. I enjoyed using the running machines complete with screens which show virtual scenes such as forest tracks as well as monitoring your distance and speed.
I liked the small, intimate space with its pretty meadow view and mirrored wall. The weights area isn’t intimidating and, as the spa is exclusive, it remains uncrowded. This is especially important as in many spa hotels the gym is either absolutely heaving with people or totally abandoned!
I enjoyed cycling on the power bikes and zoning out – I’d forgotten the power of exercise induced endorphins! I’ve bounced a baby, run after a toddler and pushed a pram for the last 2 years so I haven’t been inactive but I realised that time set aside to exercise is still important to me.
In fact, I recently restarted the free NHS Couch 2 5k programme again and filmed my first week for my YouTube channel. If you are a parent and you’re struggling to set time aside for yourself, I’d recommend starting small, short bursts which can easily be integrated into your usual routines.
Thank you very much to the team at Hatherley Manor Hotel and Spa for inviting me to experience the facilities – I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with you.
