(AD) Gloucester Cathedral family discovery trail review

This blog post is marked as an AD (advert) because I was gifted a product or service in return for writing a review and/or social media coverage. I aim to be transparent in order to retain your trust and I hope you will continue to support the Thrifty Mumma Thrifty Bubba blog and social media channels.

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog.

We were recently invited to review Gloucester Cathedral’s new family discovery trail. Born and bred in Gloucester I am always keen to support local initiatives and I was excited to see how the Cathedral is planning to attract families and hold the interest of the youngest to the oldest members.

Set in the heart of Gloucester city centre, Gloucester Cathedral is an imposing sight. Built in 1089, this honey coloured limestone building is steeped in history and has even been used as a filming location for Harry Potter.

The new Family Discovery Guide costs £4.50 and includes an impressive number of family friendly activities to discover when visiting the Cathedral. Packed full of facts and fun, the guide offers good value for money and once purchased can be used again and again.

Interestingly, Gloucester Cathedral offers additional seasonal guides throughout the year e.g. Christmas, Easter. If you already have the Family Discovery Guide, the additional guides cost just £1.00 and can easily be added to the metal ring as a souvenir.

A highlight of the activities is the Tribune Gallery which can be found by taking a winding stone staircase (which children love). This ‘secret’ upper level contains a room full of activities to enjoy including build-your-own gargoyle and stain glass window stations, a dress up station and a brass rubbing station.

We were surprised to find that Gloucester Cathedral offers a ‘Bounce and Brunch’ session on Saturdays where parents can enjoy pastries and a hot drink while children have fun on a bouncy castle. It’s even held inside ensuring that the weather is no issue!

For a more visual insight you can watch my vlog of our day at Gloucester Cathedral by visiting my YouTube channel.

We were really impressed at the activities on offer to entertain families especially the ones that can be accessed for free including the Tribune Gallery and the Bounce and Brunch.

Thank you to Gloucester Cathedral for hosting us and to Afra Willmore for organising the day.

If you have any of your own Gloucestershire gems then I’d love to hear them so please comment below – I’m always on the lookout for local ideas for family friendly days out.

As always, thank you for reading!
